Why Most Outreach Emails Get Ignored
Your prospects get dozens of sales emails a week. Most of them sound the same: a quick intro, a list of features, and a request for 30 minutes of their time.
At Albacross, we looked at the outreach approaches used by some of the best sales minds in the business. We wanted to find out what separates the emails that get replies from the ones that get deleted. The answer isn’t just personalization. It’s making every message meaningful for the person reading it.
Here are the six laws behind it.
1. Do include video
Video lets your personality come through and creates a human connection before you’ve ever spoken. According to Salesloft, sales teams that use video see a 16% bump in open rates.
Before you hit record, decide:
- Where it fits in your sequence: first touch, middle, or final follow-up
- What type of video to use: webcam, screen share, or automated
- What the thumbnail shows. A video no one clicks is wasted. Try writing the prospect’s name on a whiteboard, or use an animated GIF.
2. Do make it about them
It’s about them, not you. Take the company pitch out of the picture and write with you, your, and your team. Gong found that top reps use these words 29% more often than their average and underperforming peers.
- Instead of “Our users save time,” write “You save time researching prospects.”
- Instead of “Our customers improve conversions,” write “You can improve conversion rates with this data.”
Use AI to pitch properly!

3. Don’t get lost in feature selling
Pitches that focus on why your product is great are 5–6x less effective than messages that name the prospect’s pain point (Flip the Script). Open with their challenge, not your product.
- ❌ “Our platform is the #1 B2B contact database.”
- ✅ “Are you tired of always having the wrong contact details for a prospect?”
4. Do find the balance between personalized and templated
You can’t spend 30 minutes on every email and still hit your numbers. Personalize what matters and template the rest.
- Personalize: your intro, the reason you’re reaching out, and the research you’ve done on the person and company.
- Template: persona or industry pain points, your value proposition, and your call to action.
This is where Albacross saves the most time. When you can see which companies are visiting your website and which pages they’re reading, your reason for reaching out writes itself. That’s personalization based on real interest, not guesswork.
5. Do test your subject lines
Subject lines decide whether the rest of your email gets read. A/B test them regularly:
- Add a personalization variable
- Phrase it as a question
- Try all lowercase
- Use power words
- Include an emoji
6. Do keep your knowledge and skills current
What worked last year might not work today, so keep learning:
- Listen to sales podcasts
- Join an online sales community
- Find a mentor
- Stay active on LinkedIn, where many of the best outreach ideas get shared first
Meaningful Outreach Starts With the Right Timing
The best email in the world still falls flat if it reaches the wrong company at the wrong time. Albacross shows you which companies are already researching solutions like yours. That way you can apply these six laws to prospects who are ready to listen.
